Moving websites to mobile phones

Web is the center offering colossal information globally via data carrier. A data carrier is the medium that offers to and fro information from servers to the client side and vice versa. The coming of web has completely brought transformation in the manner the entire information is passed to general masses through government and other private organizations.

As the result of this massive transformation in the very character and role, the consumers are gradually becoming the owners and information churners. With the coming of web, the nature of information development and broadcasting has undergone a sea change. It has also given the masses direct access to information and make individual judgments.

As a strong medium of information dissemination, websites have come to play the role of an educator. These are becoming single point of contact for teachers and students to fetch information on sports, news, entertainment, learning, trade and much more. All this seemed to be a dream few years back.

Besides, with the innovative range of desktop PCs, laptops, notebooks, PDAs, smart phones landing in the local markets, making a successful access to the websites is a game of mere seconds. On the G-local scenario, statistics reveal that for every single PC or Laptop, there are over 15 mobile phone users. This tantamount, there are more mobile users than PC/Laptop users.

In Nigeria, for example, the presence of awry telephone infrastructure has led to outburst of mobile phones; even in the desolated areas of the country (It is more of a hyperbolic statement, unless the GSM mobile operators come into play). Having over 40 million mobile phone users in Nigeria, it would be an amazingly alarming to see the PC to mobile ratio settling at 1: 1000.

Due to power and load shedding problems, it becomes very difficult to use desktop PCs to their convenience. Likewise, the laptop users have the limitation to use their laptops for long hours on battery. If we compare mobiles with computers, we can see lot of similarities. Mobiles like desktop PCs function on chip technology have microprocessors (though less powerful); operating system, storage system, browsers, chatting etc. As compared to PCs, mobiles are easy to charge as they are easier to carry and compatible under different set physical set of conditions. Can you imagine carrying your PC from place to place! Neigh…

This clearly marks that most of Nigerians have access to appropriate technology and tool in order to get through the web, source anytime and anywhere, without much of an effort. Isn’t it right to place more websites over mobile phones! Yeah… it’s true…

Except with limitations of an enhanced interface for web browsing, mobile phones hold enormous capabilities that cannot be compared to any gadget or technology product for that matter. Mobile is compatible, personal and comprehensive information source for information dissemination, just anytime and anywhere on the earth.

What is required to see while developing and deployment of mobile applications, are the limitations, principals and the practical usefulness of the gadget. It is important that limitations are come over and users get the best mobiles with enhanced web application procedures.

A Truly Mobile Web Gives You a Win-Win Situation

Mobile Phone Users - Now you can have direct access to wide information base, bypassing the need for desktop PC or lappy or those ISPs confusing Internet subscription schemes. Just a GPRS enabled mobile phone… and this is a prosaic feature, especially if one compares with the latest mobile technologies, viz, 3G, EDGE making waves round the corner. AGPRS mobile phone is pretty cheap, as it offers you to access complete website for as low as N3.00, and even less.

Content Solution Providers – Mobiles provide content providers an enhanced opportunity to list new products and services to host of web audience, even in the remotest areas (without any cyber cafés), and that too without any PC or a laptop.

Network Service Providers – GPRS enabled mobile phones provide a potent income source to network providers as more people can access the web via networks. The phones offer a low cost option to access Internet and an ideal source for increased revenue, when compared to other technology product alternatives available down the line.

Next thing out there!Mobile web offers enormous galleria of opportunities to people from different backgrounds. Whether, you are a businessman, a professional, or any government agency, you can explore the positives of mobile web for your use and benefits.

Look at the following excerpts

  • People living in villages and having mobile phones and scratch cards can view JAMB results, just in the comforts of their homes, and at affordable N3.00 or N4.00. Compare this to the hectic traveling to adjoining cities in order to check the results over PC web systems installed in cyber café’s. Can you imagine the amount of risk you reduce this way? The very risk of accident, robbery etc.

  • Relevant information about the vehicle can be extracted easily by the road safety officials in minutes from the drivers' license number, and in wake of any traffic offence committed by the driver, suitable fine can be charged by officials by adding the fine amount to driver’s record.

  • For users, inhabiting the places where Internet is not accessible, mobile web offers easy access to vast information base at meager N10.00 per day.

  • Professionals, especially, Real estate agents, lawyers, doctors, sales people or engineers, who require extensive traveling, can access web while outside their office facility. In this manner, their productivity increases as there is substantial reduction of transportation cost and cost on communication, which would have been otherwise been a major overhead cost.

  • The mobile web users can get important information from banks about their accounts and other services being offered by the banks. The dependency on marketers will be reduced, and moreover, the authenticity of information shall be great.

  • What’s more, Restaurants, boutiques, bookshops, computer stores can easily dispense information about their products and services over any GPRS mobile.

And… if you think this is all but an impractical thing to read, then you can visit mobile versions of my websites and if liked, read the detailed articles out there at not more than N6.00 (for reading detail articles) or N2.00 (for reading or skimming over the articles).
